Exploring the use of impulse responses, sampled and synthesised
"far away to right up close"

This utilises two impulse responses that morph seamlessly from one to the other. The sample starts with the application of an impulse response from an acoustic environment that is distant and reverberant ; and moves to one that is exceptionally dry and close.


"flute at the Geffrye Museum"

With many thanks to London's Geffrye Museum, who kindly gave permission to make some on-site impulse response recordings in their various historic rooms. I am still analysing and processing these in detail, but below is an early example (subject to change).

"clarinet in varied acoustics"

This series of sounds starts with a dry (untreated) solo clarinet. The sound is then processed with a series of impulse responses, some authentic and some synthetic. Listen to the original sound and then each of the samples utilising different impulse responses to see what impact they have on the sound.

In the samples above, the synthetic impulse responses are used by: 18th century room, labyrinth and small prehistoric cave. The remainder are authentic impulse responses.

transaural

Transaural audio is a method used to deliver binaural signals to the ears of a listener using stereo loudspeakers. The sounds should appear to, in part, come from beyond the normal stereophonic space.
